In Memoriam Ricky L. Karamoy

Ricky Lodewyk Karamoy, a prominent contemporary artist hailing from Indonesia, gained recognition during the vibrant art scene of the 90s. Originally from Bandar Lampung Province in South Sumatra, Ricky’s artistic journey began in Yogyakarta and eventually led him to settle in Ubud, Bali, where he was immersing in a creative haven for 20 years. Exploring various artistic mediums, including painting, mask carving, and batik techniques, Ricky drew inspiration from the wisdom of local senior artists.

Driven by a deep need for self-expression and a desire to break free from conventional artistic processes, Ricky found his voice through painting. His dynamic and expressive artworks often convey personal narratives and embrace contemporary styles. Symbolic figures, such as fish representing life’s cosmic essence, and human characters portraying diverse experiences, take center stage in his creations. Ricky’s fusion of abstract expressionism and cubism is evident in his bold use of colors, vigorous brushwork, and incorporation of geometric elements. His exceptional artworks have garnered acclaim and have been showcased in esteemed galleries across Indonesia, Australia, and Europe.
